Victory for DR Congo in Group 12

DR Congo's Matumona Zola
Zola converted a penalty to give DR Congo victory

It took a penalty to separate DR Congo and Malawi in the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Matumona Zola made the conversion in the 75th minute for the Simbas in Kinshasa on Sunday.

They now lie third in Group 12.

Egypt moved to the top of Group 12 of the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after thrashing Djibouti 4-0 on Friday.

The African champions dominated the opening exchanges but had to wait until the 40th minute before breaking the deadlock through Amr Zaki.

The visitors doubled their lead through the spot kick on 47 minutes after Hosni Abd Rabo drilled an unstoppable drive past goalkeeper Guedi Hassan.

Captain Ahmed Hassan made it 3-0 in the 54th minute before Ahmed Abdelmalik's strike sealed the comprehensive victory.

Next weekend Egypt travel to play Malawi while Djibouti, who are firmly rooted at the bottom of table, will be out of contention for the next round of qualifiers if they lose away to DR Congo.
