Sunday's win was Mozambique's first in Group Seven

Ivory Coast confirmed themselves as the sole Group Seven leaders of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers after an emphatic 4-0 win over Botswana on Sunday.

The Elephants were in the lead after 16 minutes when Germany-based striker Boubacar Sanogo beat goalkeeper Modiri marumo at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

Tottenham midfielder Didier Zokora extended their lead five minutes later before a second-half double by Sekou Cisse completed the rout.

The Elephants have eight points, putting them three clear of Botswana, who shared top spot with the west Africans before Sunday's game.

Meanwhile, Mozambique lifted themselves off the bottom of the table after easily beating Madagascar 3-0 on Sunday.

The home side's first win of the group took them to third place with four points, one ahead of Madagascar, who are now at the bottom.

Mozambique were hoping to improve their fortunes in the group after taking just one point form their three previous matches.

Their captain Tico-Tico put them in the lead on 23 minutes but the visitors held firm until after the break.

Two second-half goals from Carlitos and Domingues, within two minutes of each other, sealed the comprehensive victory for the home side.

Madagascar replaced coach Mickael Nivoson Andrianasy with Franck Rajaonarisamba after last week's 1-1 draw with Mozambique.

They were hoping the changes could help improve the fortunes of the team but it did not count for much as they slipped to the bottom of the group.
