Cape Verde claimed all three points with a 1-0 away win in Mauritius on Sunday, thanks to a penalty from Dady.

The goal came just before half-time and keeps the island nation in second place in 2010 World Cup qualifying Group 1, with six points from three games.

Cameroon remain top with seven points despite their 0-0 draw against Tanzania in Dar-es-Salaam on Saturday.

The star-studded Indomitable Lions' strike force, including Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o, failed to register.

The team was said to be furious with the result after the match and refused to speak to waiting journalists.

The penalty was scored by striker Eduardo Fernandes Pereira Gomes nicknamed Dady, who played ofr Spain First division team Osasuna after a foul by keeper Didier Gopaul.

Cape Verde coach Joao De Deus said his team had struggled: "This was a difficult match for us in the rain and also the Mauritius team proved a good opponent.

"Nothing is over at this stage and we need to grab many more points."

Meanwhile, Mauritius coach Ashok Chundunsing says his team had progressed.

"We have a quite young team and the players lack maturity but there is some hope as I can see some progress, but we must continue to work harder."

The result in the other match was a riposte from Tanzania coach Marcio Maximo, who has been under strong pressure from fans and the media.

The full house in Dar-es-Salaam ended the game by chanting the coach's name in appreciation.

The Taifa Stars remain third with two points while Mauritius are still rooted to the bottom with one point.
