Botswana have sacked their national team coach, Colywn Rowe with immediate effect.
The move comes after the Zebras were held to a goalless draw at home by Madagascar in their first World Cup qualifying match on Saturday.
Botswana supporters remained behind after the game chanting for Rowe's dismissal.
Fans thought the Madagascar match should have been a certain victory for Botswana because of continuing problems within the Malagasy Football Federation.
The draw was the latest in a string of poor performances for the Botswana team and provoked an angry reaction.
Botswana Football Association President Philip Makgalemele told BBC Sport that the decision was taken partly for reasons of Rowe's security.
"We parted ways with Rowe on mutual terms and took into consideration some developments at some matches, the Madagascar game being the latest," he said.
"We also wanted to ensure that the senior national team continues the 2010 qualifiers in the spirit of national unity within the country."
Although the Zebras have not been performing to their best of late it was during the reign of Rowe that Botswana achieved their best ever FIFA ranking, 96th.
The Former national team boss and current defence coach, Stanley Tshosane, has been given the job of leading the team for the remainder of the campaign.
Botswana take on Mozambique this coming weekend in Maputo and then host Ivory Coast.
