Fikru Tefera scored for SuperSport on the final day of the season
SuperSport United have won their first South African Premier League title despite losing 2-1 at Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday.
On a dramatic final day of the season SuperSport United needed just a draw to clinch the title but second placed Ajax Cape Town could only manage a 2-2 draw at Lamontville Golden Arrows.
The results mean that SuperSport United finished two points ahead of Ajax.
Moses Spandeel's two first-half goals for Celtic had threatened to cost SuperSport as the title hung in the balance.
Fikru Tefera headed home a cross by Sibusiso Mahlangu on the hour mark to pull the goal back for SuperSport United.
Ajax Cape Town, who had to win to stand any chance of wresting the title away, came from two goals down but could not find an elusive third goal that would have given them a first title instead.
SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town qualify for next year's African Champions League, while third placed Santos will play in the Confederation Cup.
