Claude LeRoy coy on Ghana exit

Claude LeRoy turned down the chance to stay as Ghana coach

Frenchman Claude LeRoy has refused to fully explain his decision not to extend his contract as Ghana coach.

The Ghana Football Association said they would be ending the 60-year-old's contract at the end of May after he had declined their offer of a new deal.

When asked by BBC Sport for his reasons he simply replied: "That's my problem.

"It wasn't a problem of the terms of the new contract. I was very proud that they wanted to keep me," he added.

He did however hint that the break-up of his coaching team did affect his decision.

"My assistant [Sellas Tetteh] left for the under-20's and with Herve [Renard] my other assistant they couldn't renew his contract for financial reasons.

"We built a dedicated team of staff and as it wasn't possible to work with the same staff I think it was better to start on a new adventure."

However he is unsure where he will be going to next.

"I will see all the proposals that I receive and then I'll choose; it can be a club in Europe, it can be a national team in Asia, a national team in Africa, a club in Europe - maybe even in England," he explained.

He also confirmed that he would not be leading the Ghana team out against Australia in a friendly in Sydney on 23 May.

LeRoy also denied that he had been contacted recently about the South Africa coaching job after Carlos Alberto Parreira left the post.

"I never had any contact with South Africa - they offered me the job in 2006 before Carlos Alberto Parreira took over but nothing since then."
