LeRoy offered new Ghana contract

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have offered coach Claude LeRoy a two-year contract extension.

The Frenchman led the Black Stars to a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this month.

"The governing body has decided to keep faith with the coach until 2010," said a statement from the GFA.

Leroy has yet to sign the contract, as he is in France.

"I will discuss this with the GFA, and we will have to settle everything," he told BBC Sport.

"I have received a lot of offers elsewhere, but I'm very proud to be offered this contract with Ghana, and the target with the Black Stars will be very high."

LeRoy's contract had been due to expire on 30 June.

By keeping faith with LeRoy, the GFA has bucked a trend in African football, where coaches are often fired after falling short of high expectations.

Ghana's motto for the 2008 Nations Cup was "host and win", and the coach had indicated that he was expecting to be sacked after the semi-final defeat to Cameroon.

Le Roy will now lead the team in the combined qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup and Nations Cup.

The Black Stars' campaign begins with an away match in Gabon on 1 June, with Libya and Lesotho also in their group.
