The Vogts-led Super Eagles lost to Ghana in the quarter-finals

The Nigerian Football Association (NFA) is still to confirm whether Berti Vogts will remain as coach after his team's exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles went out at the quarter-final stage on Sunday, making it their worst display for 25 years.

When asked about Vogts's future NFA secretary-general Bolaji Ojo-Oba said: "You'll be informed appropriately."

Vogts has a contract until 2010, and BBC Sport understands that it could cost as much as $1.5m to fire him.

Ojo-Oba was also unable to give a time-scale as to when a decision will be taken.

Nigerian fans are understood to be directing their anger at Vogts and the NFA, who employed the German last February.

Vogts's appointment came after an unhappy and unsuccessful spell as Scotland coach.

"They are free to hold their own opinion," said Ojo-Oba of the NFA's critics.

"It's better to take a bad decision than not to take a decision at all."
