Rwanda are bidding to win their tenth Cecafa Challenge title

The win now pits the Amavubi against Sudan in the final to be played in Dar es Salaam, on 22 December.

Sudan qualified on Wednesday after overcoming Burundi 2-1 in the other semi-final of the regional tournament.

"We, and the people back home, are very happy we are in the final," said Rwanda captain Olivier Karekezi.

Second-half substitute Tuyisenge created the opening by cutting-in from the right wing before shooting.

The shot deflected goalwards off Ugandan captain Andy Mwesigwa, to spark stadium-wide Rwandan celebrations.

Uganda coach Laszlo Csaba said: "It is painful to lose with a goal like that, when you don't have luck that happens.

"You create many chances but you don't take them, I am sorry for this young team."

It was perhaps the best match of the tournament with each team creating a host of clear-cut chances especially in the second half.

Both teams had a goal disallowed for off-side during normal time and their goalkeepers pulled off stunning saves to keep their teams in the game.

Karekezi came close on 19 minutes but his effort was saved by Ugandan keeper Hamza Muwombe, while Kamana Bokota created another chance a few minutes later.

Uganda also created a host of chances through Mwesigwa, Hamis Kitagenda and hard-working Danny Wagaruka.

The teams continued to attack each other in turns but there were no goals after 90 minutes, but as a penalty shoot-out was looming in extra time, Tuyisenge made the difference.

Rwanda are bidding to win their second ever Cecafa title, while Uganda were gunning for their tenth.
