Rwanda are through to the quarter finals of the Cecafa Cup |
Rwanda thumped hapless Djibouti 9-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Cecafa Cup in Tanzania on Thursday.
A hat-trick by striker Kamana Bokota steered the Wasps to victory in the Group B game in Dar-es-Salam.
Bokota opened his scoring account on 38 minutes and two goals in the second half sealed his hat-trick.
Sweden-based striker Olivier Karekezi grabbed a brace after twice taking advantage of defensive slip-ups.
Roger Tuyisenge, Elias Uzamukunda and Ngoma Herman were also on target as they grabbed one apiece to hand their team the biggest win in the championship so far.
Rwanda team captain Olivier Karekezi said their win was a sign of a revival.
"We feel good and confident for the next game. Our coach is new but he knows how to use his players," he said.
Djibouti, who had lost their opening match 7-0 to Uganda, became the first team to go out of the tournament after awarding Rwanda the goal feast.
In Thursday's other game, Zanzibar became the first team to qualify from Group C after beating Ethiopia 3-1.
The results mean Zanzibar, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda and Eritrea have all booked their quarter-finals places.
The two remaining slots will be filled when Somalia take on Kenya on Friday and Sudan play Ethiopia on Saturday.
In Friday's other game Eritrea will face Uganda to decide who tops Group B.
