Peter Odemwingie was stand-in captain and created the goal |
Nigeria completed their series of international friendlies with a win over Switzerland on Tuesday. Defender Taye Taiwo scored with 11 minutes to go in Zurich, to give the Super Eagles a one-nil victory.
It followed their defeat at the hands of Australia at the weekend.
The goal was created by stand-in captain Peter Odemwingie.
Portsmouth's strike pair of John Utaka and Nwankwo Kanu were again missing because of injury.
Berti Vogts was also missing Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins, who was reportedly unable to get a visa.
Victory for South Africa at last
In other games, South Africa earned a two-nil win over Canada; Guinea beat Angola three-nil and Algeria just pipped Mali in a thrilling match which finished three-two.
Some of the pressure is off coach Carlos Alberto Parreira |
Midfielder Teko Modise scored both South Africa's goals to give Bafana Bafana a much needed victory. Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira had been under considerable pressure after a run of just one win in their last seven matches.
"I was happy with team's performance, we had the right balance and attitude and we created opportunities," the former Brazil coach said.
"I think we deserved the win.
"Things happen when we played with joy, but we are still far away from being a finished product."
