Oyuiki Obaseki is due to appear before the ICPC next week |
Nigeria's anti-corruption agency says they will be investigating financial matters to clean up the country's game. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says the 'crisis' in Nigerian football needs inspection.
The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and the Nigeria Football League (NFL) have had a long-standing tussle, over such matters including the selection of officials and the fulfilment of fixtures.
"Recent trends are concerning and we need to take a closer look," EFCC chairman, Nuhu Ribadu said.
"For us to develop football we must put corruption out of it; we must sanitize (and) we must clean up."
Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, established the EFCC four years ago to root out the country's endemic corruption.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, have summoned suspended NFL chairman Oyuiki Obaseki and five other officials over alleged misappropriation of US$360,000.
The ICPC says they expect the NFL officials to show up at their headquarters next week.
