Oyuiki Obaseki helped prevent the new secretary from entering the NFL building |
The newly appointed executive-secretary of the Nigerian Football League has been locked out of his office, by the ousted former officials. Alhassan Saleh Yakmut was appointed by the board of the country's football association on Tuesday.
But when he arrived at the NFL's offices he was refused access by the officials he is supposed to replace, and a melee ensued.
Mr Yakmut is supposed to replace the former executive secretary Salihu Abubakar, who has been suspended by the NFA for two years.
The NFL Chairman Oyuiki Obaseki has been suspended for three years, but he was in vanguard in preventing Mr Yakmut from entering the league headquarters.
An NFA spokesman, Ademola Olajire, told BBC Sport they were stunned by the actions of the NFL.
"We can confirm Alhassan Yakmut as the new executive secretary of the Nigeria football professional league, it is a change that is necessary to restructure the league," Olajire said.
NFA - "We will take action"
"Sadly we sent someone to the NFL office, only to be refused access into the building which is highly disappointing.
"We will take full action at the appropriate time because it is indeed a disregard for football rules in the land."
But Mr Obaseki insisted he would not allow Yakmut into the building.
"There is no way for anyone to take over our offices and it's a shame that something like this is happening to our football after all our hard work," Obaseki told the BBC.
"He came in with a letter from the sports ministry but such a letter does not give him access into this place."
The two organisations, the football association and the football league, have been at loggerheads for many months.
