Vogts worries about preparations

Berti Vogts is worried about Nigeria's preparations for the Nations Cup

Nigeria coach Berti Vogts says the Super Eagles' hopes of preparing properly for the next African Cup of Nations finals are already being undermined by poor organisation.

The Super Eagles were due to play Togo on Tuesday in a friendly, but the match was cancelled just before Nigeria's Nation's Cup qualifier against Lesotho on Saturday.

A furious Vogts says that attitudes have to change given the importance of preparation ahead of the Nations Cup finals in Ghana in January.

"I am not happy about it because I need these friendly matches to prepare my team," Vogts said.

The German coach said that a general apathy towards the national team, especially from the Nigerian FA, is hindering the progress of the Super Eagles.

"I am very unhappy the match was cancelled and the international department (of the NFA) should know why," he added.

"I proposed two friendly matches myself, but now this one have been cancelled. This is not funny.

"I am now looking out to play two friendly matches in October and November."

Meanwhile, Vogts says he was impressed with his new addition to the Super Eagles debutants on Saturday, Richard Eromoigbe and Ikechukwu Uche.

The duo came on as second half substitute in the 2-0 win over Lesotho, with Uche getting a goal on 75 minutes leaving Vogts a happy man.

"We need a pool of between twenty five and twenty seven players because we cannot play the nation's cup with eleven or eighteen players so we will keep inviting new people until we get twenty five we can really on," he said.

Everton striker Victor Anichebe is one of those few still waiting for their first Nigerian cap as he was ruled out of Saturday's qualifier due to injury.
