Egypt's lead in the group has been cut to two points |
Egypt were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by Mauritania in Nouakchott in Group Two of qualifying for the African Nations Cup. The Pharaohs seemed to have got off to the ideal start when Ahmad Hassan scored after only 15 minutes.
But the current holders of the trophy were pegged back with 20 minutes to go thanks to Johan Langlet's equaliser.
Egypt remain top, however, thanks to Burundi's 1-0 win over Botswana in the Rwandan capital Kigali.
Burundi's win - thanks to Abdul Hakizimana's 83rd-minute goal - propelled them from bottom in the group to second - and only two points behind Egypt.
Burundi were forced to move the match to their neighbours' stadium after their own was deemed to be substandard for the game.
