Ibrahima Sonko has dropped a hint that he wants to play Senegal |
Reading defender Ibrahima Sonko has dropped his biggest hint yet that he wants to play international football for Senegal rather than France. Sonko was born in Senegal but moved to France as a youngster and is eligible to play for either country.
Earlier in the season he insisted he was concentrating on his club football and not an international career.
"It would make my parents proud if I played for Senegal and I think I want to make them proud," he said.
"I feel French because I lived there but I'm Senegalese, I can't escape that.
"I grew up in France and was educated there but my genes are Senegalese."
Sonko has played at under-23 level for Senegal but in the past has declined several call ups to the senior side.
