Berti Vogts is refusing to travel to Nigeria until he is paid |
The Nigeria Football Association's (NFA) hopes of unveiling German Berti Vogts as their new coach have been hit by a contractual disagreement.
The 60-year-old was expected to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday, but refused to travel to the West African country until three months' salary have been paid.
The NFA issued a press statement on Wednesday stating that Vogts had requested that the trip be postponed, but no reason was given.
But Emeka Ezeala, a representative of Vogts, revealed that his client was forced to cancel his trip due to a breach in the contract signed in early February.
"According to the contract signed in London, Vogts is supposed to be paid three months salary in advance," says Ezeala.
"We had an agreement that the money should be paid by February 14 and it still is to be remitted into his account."
"It's sad that a simple gentlemen's agreement is starting off on a wrong note.
"Hopefully after the Caf awards in Ghana [where officials of the NFA are travelling to this week] we hope to communicate with them again if their newly preferred date of 8 March is a possibility.
"But first this payment has to be made."
