German Antoine Hey is still the coach of Gambia |
Gambia's Sports Minister, Omar Faye, has insisted that German Antoine Hey is still coach of the country's national football team.
Faye said that Hey would be returning to the Gambia at the end of November to sign a formal contract.
Earlier in the week, the Gambia Football Association had said that Hey had stepped down as the Scorpions' coach because he had not been paid.
The Minister admitted that there was a problem with money, but was confident that it could be resolved when Hey returned to the Gambia.
"He said he is being owed some money and he is getting me all the information," Faye said.
"He said he is willing to come and work with us, he is happy I have intervened and he is looking forward to working with me."
"The issue of money is there but we are trying to get the money and pay him his money - everybody needs to be paid."
"When you work, you have to be paid: I don't care if you are a coach or whether you are a cleaner."
The German was appointed in September, as the Scorpions ended a three-year spell without a coach.
