DR Congo striker Shabani Nonda joins Roma |
DR Congo striker Shabani Nonda has signed a three -year deal with the Italian Serie A side AS Roma.
The club announced on Saturday that the 28-year-old, would be joining on a free transfer from French club Monaco.
The deal is worth US$ 2.2 million a season.
"I'm delighted to be at Roma. It's a great team, with players of international calibre," Nonda was quoted as saying in La Gazzetta dello Sport on Saturday.
"It is a dream of mine, for example, to play alongside (Roma captain Francesco) Totti," said Nonda, who helped Monaco reach the Champions League final last year.
Nonda is the third player to arrive at Roma since the start of the month, following Ghanaian defender Samuel Kuffour and ex-Siena midfielder Rodrigo Taddei.
The trio will be expected to help re-launch the team's ambitions.
The 2001 Italian champions endured a difficult 2004-05 season.
They made an early exit in the Champions League and then flirted with the danger of relegation before finishing ninth in Serie A on 45 points, 41 behind winners Juventus.
