Akwa is a doubt for Angola's 2006 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria |
Angola have reinforced their squad for their 2006 World Cup qualifier at home to Nigeria. The Angolans have concerns over the availability of captain and key striker Akwa for the match against the Super Eagles.
Coach Luis Oliviera Goncalves has added Petro Atletico striker Flavio, who was named best player in the African Champions League in 2001, to his squad for the Group Four qualifier in Luanda on 20 June.
A muscle strain caused Akwa to miss their earlier game in Algeria, which saw Angola get off to a solid start with a goalless draw against their hosts.
Akwa has been receiving specialised treatment as has defender Jacinto, who received a knock during the opening qualifier.
Also called up to add cover to the squad is uncapped midfielder Zico from local side Progresso Sambizanga.
This follows the failure to obtain the release of talented midfielder Gilberto from Egyptian giants Al Ahly for the game in Algeria.
Gilberto has been called up for Angola's last three matches but never arrived to play in any of the games.
