Frederic Kanoute is expected to play for Mali at the Olympics |
There were mixed fortunes for the five African teams at the Olympic tournament after Wednesday's draw in Athens.
Mali, making their debut at the event, play hosts Greece, South Korea and Mexico in Group A.
The Malians reached the Olympics by edging out 2000 champions Cameroon in the group qualifiers.
Ghana, bronze medallists at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, meet Italy, Paraguay and Japan in Group B.
Tunisia, who qualified for the Olympics at the expense of 1996 gold medallists Nigeria, will face Argentina, Serbia-Montenegro and Australia in Group C.
Morocco, a country that has enjoyed an international revival following their appearance in the final of the 2004 Cup of Nations, meet Costa Rica, Iraq and Portugal in Group D.
In the women's tournament, Nigeria's Super Falcons, who are Africa's sole representative, face Sweden and Japan in Group E.
Norway, winners of the 2000 women's tournament, did not qualify for the 2004 edition.
