Cameroon will not be defending their Olympic title in Athens |
Mali's under-23 side caused a major shock by beating reigning Olympic champions Cameroon 1-0 in Bamako. The result means that Mali qualify for this year's Olympics in Athens at the expense of their opponents.
Cameroon only needed a draw to finish top of Group B and with it a spot at the Olympics.
Their dream was ended by a loan goal from Dramane Traore as early as the seventh minute.
Cameroon missed a chance two weeks ago to qualify for Athens when they were surprisingly held 1-1 at home by the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In the other Group B clash the Democratic Republic of Congo beat the Ivory Coast 1-0, thanks to a goal from Saddam Ilongo fifteen minutes from time.
However the game was of little importance since neither side could have qualified.
