Hassan expected to be given a role in Sudan |
Egypt veteran Hossam Hassan has told the country's FA he does not want to be invited for future international engagements.
The striker, who is the most capped African international player, said he does not wish to have a running dispute with current manager Marco Tardelli.
The Italian named the Zamalek striker in his squad for the 2006 World Cup qualifier against Sudan in Khartoum, which the Pharaohs won 3-0, but Tardelli failed to use Hassan.
Yet the 37-year-old, who scored both goals in Egypt's 2-0 victory over Gabon in a preparatory match, expected Tardelli to give him a first-team place.
"I am not a young player anymore and I do not want to have troubles with anyone," said an angry Hassan.
"If I was given the chance to play against Sudan, we would have scored more goals."
Known for his volatile temperament, Hassan has been involved in several disputes with previous managers of Al Ahly, Zamalek and the national team.
However, the Egyptian Football Association is keen for Hassan to remain with the team.
Essam Abdel Moneim, head of the Egyptian FA, is planning a meeting between Hassan and Tardelli to improve relations between the two.
The Pharaohs face a tough Group Three World Cup qualifier against the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Alexandria on 20 June.
