Yobo believes Nigeria can improve on their 2-0 defeat of Rwanda |
Despite Nigeria's 2-0 defeat of Rwanda, Super Eagles defender Joseph Yobo believes the team will improve with the return of more experienced players.
In Group Four on Saturday, Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins scored twice on his home debut to sink the Wasps.
Yet the Super Eagles were missing regular captain Jay-Jay Okocha as well as Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu and defender Isaac Okoronkwo.
"No doubt about it, we missed Okocha, Kanu and others," Yobo said.
"Maybe that's why Martins was uncomfortable with some of our more inexperienced players."
National coach Christian Chukwu has said he did not select Okocha, Kanu nor Okoronkwo after the trio failed to turn up for last week's Unity Cup games against the Republic of Ireland and Jamaica.
"I have now discovered Okocha wanted a rest and Kanu is preparing for his wedding in a few weeks' time," Chukwu said on Sunday.
The Super Eagles boss said he could recall some of the players for the forthcoming qualifier in Angola, who drew with Algeria on Saturday, on 20 June.
Yet Chuwku says his immediate priority is to review the health of his squad before making any decisions.
"My strikers Obafemi Martins and Rabiu Baita have injuries, but I want to know the level (of the injuries) before deciding on how to use them for the Angola match," he said.
"We must get our players together in time for some training sessions and, if we can, have a friendly match before travelling to Luanda."
Nigeria Football Association officials said the squad and travel plans for the Angola tie would be released next week.
