A late tackle caused Martins' injury |
Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins has suffered a double leg injury following the Super Eagles' 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Rwanda on Saturday.
Martins, who scored both goals on his home debut, twisted knee ligaments in the first half of the Group Four qualifier.
"Martins twisted his knee and has headed back to his base in Italy," said national team doctor Abdulkadir Mu'azu.
"We hope he will be okay in a week's time."
Martins also pulled a muscle after being the victim of a late tackle in the closing stages of the Group Four qualifier.
"He also suffered a muscle pull after he scored his second goal but that has since been treated," Mu'azu added.
Martins himself said he was getting better but did not know when he would be fit again.
The Inter Milan striker has had a fantastic start to his international career, scoring on his debut last month against the Republic of Ireland in London.
The 19-year-old has thus found the net three times in just two games for the Super Eagles.
Nigeria's victory takes them to the top of Group Four, with Algeria, Angola, Zimbabwe and Gabon all tied on one point each.
