GFA chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has got a court injunction

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has secured a court injunction to stop the association's executive council trying to impeach him.

A High Court in Accra ruled late on Thursday evening that the executive council was acting beyond it's powers in their attempt to impeach Tamakloe.

The council had given the GFA chairman up to 1700 GMT on Friday to answer a charge of misconduct or face impeachment.

Tamakloe has been charged by the council after he questioned the questioned the essence, size and statutory powers of the council.

Tamakloe's lawyers argued that the GFA's own regulations defined misconduct as "embezzlement, inefficiency, non-attendance of three consecutive meetings, or acting in a manner prejudicial to the interest of the GFA" and insisted that the association's chairman had not committed any of the offences since assuming office in April this year.

The executive council were upset with Tamakloe after a letter he wrote to the Ministry of Youth and Sports was leaked to the press.

In the letter he said it was 'absurd' that the GFA's statutes say that control of the country's football should lie with the executive council while the management board are in charge of the association's daily administration.
