Tamakloe says the GFA's power structure must be streamlined |
Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe could be removed from office on Friday.
The GFA's executive council threatened to impeach Tamakloe if he did not respond to charges of disrespect to the 37-man body.
Tamakloe questioned the essence, size and statutory powers of the council, which held an extraordinary meeting on Thursday to initiate impeachment proceedings.
In a letter he wrote to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, leaked to a newspaper, Tamakloe described the GFA's hierarchy as "an absurd structure."
The GFA's regulations state that control of football in the country shall be vested in the executive council with the management board in charge of daily administration.
"[This] has enabled the executive council to frustrate the activities of the management board in one breath, and then in another, when things go bad, escape blame," Tamakloe said in his letter.
"[They use] the excuse that 'the board is responsible for the day-to-day management of Ghana football.'
"We have an unwieldy body of 37 members superintending the day-to-day activities of a five-member board.
"This makes neither common nor business sense," Tamakloe argued in the letter.
An angry GFA council chairman Y.A. Ibrahim said Tamakloe had breached "laid down procedures" by complaining to the ministry.
"He has castigated us and showed disrespect to the executive council."
"He acted without recognising the laid down procedures of the FA, which is why we are taking him on."
Tamakloe has refused to comment on the charges brought by the council.
