Nigeria coach Christian Chukwu is hoping to lift the LG Cup in Lagos |
Nigeria's team of locally-based players will face a Senegal side made up of under-23 players in the final of the LG Cup on Friday.
The Super Eagles, who are aiming to retain the trophy they won last year, made it to the final thanks to a 2-0 win over Jordan on Wednesday, while Senegal beat Libya 1-0.
Nigeria's goals came from debutant Emeka Akwueme in the 16th minute and Chukwudi Nworgu who struck seven minutes from time.
Chukwu said that the aim is not just to win the tournament but to give the local players some valuable international experience.
"We want to expose the local players to international games and winning the cup will be an added incentive," he told BBC Sport.
Chukwu is convinced that some of the local players could compete with their Europe-based counterparts for permanent shirts in the national team.
"I'm not disappointed with what I've seen so far. I think we have a bright future.
"We'll take the game against Senegal like every other game and if we win, we will have achieved our goals for the tournament," he concluded.
Abdoulaye Sarr, Senegal's coach for the tournament, was in jovial mood after his side edged out Libya thanks to an 83rd-minute goal from Mohammadou Traore.
"We are here with our Olympic squad and winning the trophy will be a great reward for the team's character after missing out on a ticket to Athens," he said.
Meanwhile, Libya and Jordan will play in the third-place match.
The winners of the tournament take home US $50,000, the losing finalist gets $30,000 and $20,000 goes to the third-placed team.
