Marco Tardelli says he will be recalling Hany Ramzy to the Egypt squad |
Egypt's new Italian coach Marco Tardelli has named a provisional squad of 30 players to attend a three-day training camp.
Veteran Hossam Hassan has been picked to lead the team despite being sidelined by his club Zamalek for the last three weeks following his involvement in a row with his Portuguese manager Vingada.
"Hassan has charisma and the team needs a leader at the moment," Tardelli said.
The 37-year-old was not the only experienced player to attract Tardelli's attention with defender Hany Ramzy due to be recalled as soon as he recovers from injury.
Ramzy has not played since August after the 34-year-old picked up a serious knee injury in the German League playing for Kaiserslautern.
Egypt's new Italian coach has also named five new players in the squad, including the Denmark-based Mohamed Zidan.
Earlier, Zidan had threatened to play for Denmark under new Fifa regulations after he was ignored by Egypt's former coach Mohsen Salah.
The 23-year-old made 27 appearances for the under-23 team but is yet to win a senior cap.
Turkey-based Ahmed Hassan and Al Ahly striker Ahmed Bilal have both been left out due to injury.
Tardelli seemed indifferent to Fifa's decision to deduct six points from their 2006 World Cup qualifying rivals Cameroon.
"I am not interested in Cameroon, I believe that Ivory Coast are the favourites in our group," he said.
The provisional squad will get together for a local training camp from 27-29 April.
The Pharaohs are also hoping to organize a friendly against either Mozambique or Gabon next month.
As well as Cameroon and the Ivory Coast, the Pharaohs will play Benin, Sudan and Libya in their 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations campaign.
