Fathy Mabrouk has decided not to work with new Egypt coach Marco Tardelli |
Egypt's caretaker coach Fathy Mabrouk has decided to step down from his post and not to stay on to work with new boss Marco Tardelli. The former national team coach, Mabrouk, was in charge of Egypt for their 2-1 victory over Trinidad & Tobago on 31 March.
However he was told by Egypt's new technical director, Marco Tardelli, that his Italian counterpart Luca Giannini will be his assistant.
Mabrouk had hoped that he would be Tardelli's assistant and feels that he was left with no real job.
"Tardelli was honest with me, but I cannot continue when there is nothing for me to do," Mabrouk said.
The president of the Egypt Football Association Essam Abdel Moniem pointed out that Tardelli has the power to assign his assistants as he pleases.
"We asked Mabrouk to stay but he insisted on leaving and we respect that," Moniem Moniem went onto confirm that another assistant coach, former international, Ismail Youssef, will remain in his post.
Tardelli, who helped Italy win the World Cup in Spain in 1982, has a tough job ahead and his first mission will be to lead the Egyptians through the 2006 World Cup qualifiers.
The Pharaohs are in a group alongside Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Libya, Benin and Sudan who they play first in June.
