Enyimba scored the first goal against Etoile in Group A |
Both Enyimba and Etoile Sahel sneaked closer to qualification for the semi-finals of the African Champions League with a 1-1 draw in Aba in Group A. Group leaders Etoile looked set to maintain their 100% start to their group phase when they went a goal up as early as the second minute through Emeka Opara.
A cross from the right was not dealt with properly by the Enyimba defence, and in the resulting scramble Opara was the quickest to react.
However, three minutes after half time the current African champions got their equaliser thanks to a penalty converted by Obinna Nwaneri.
It was the first points dropped by the Tunisians, as well as the first goal they had conceded in Group A so far.
Meanwhile in the other group match in Abidjan, an injury-time equaliser for African Sport saved the Ivorian's pride - and cost Bakili Bullets a valuable away victory.
Substitute Massaoubu Nikiewa capitalised on a horrendous defensive mistake to win his side a point.
Bakili Bullets had seemed certain to secure a second straight victory after they took a first half lead through Robert Ngambi on 18 minutes.
But the draw doesn't help either side much in the quest for a semi-final spot.
Etoile are now all but certain to qualify for the semi-finals with their 10 points. Enymiba are behind them on seven, and will be hot favourites to join them.
