Guy Stephan will coach Senegal against French club Guingamp |
Senegal have announced that they are to take on French first division side Guingamp on 28 April. The match is part of Senegal's preparations for the 2006 World Cup qualifiers that start on June 5 with a game against Congo.
The game in France replaces a match against the Ivory Coast in Dakar, that was cancelled when the Elephants pulled out.
Frenchman Guy Stephan will coach the Teranga Lions for the friendly, since the government has so far refused to approve the football federation's decision to sack him.
The federation wanted to get rid of Stephan in March, following Senegal's quarter-final elimination at the African Cup of Nations in Tunisia amid accusations of indiscipline and lack of control over the country's top players.
However, the decision is yet to be approved by the sports ministry, which co-signed Stephan's contract and shares the cost of his salary.
Several new faces are expected to be named in the squad for the match.
Senegal will be without El Hadji Diouf for the opening four games in the 2006 qualifiers after he was suspended by Caf following their 1-0 defeat to Tunisia at the Cup of Nations.
As well as Congo, the Senegalese will play Liberia, Mali, Togo and Zambia in Group 1 of the 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
