Uganda currently only have one goalkeeper in Burkina Faso |
Uganda's reserve goalkeeper, Hamza Muwonge, has been arrested at Abidjan International Airport and deported.
The 22-year-old was on his way to join the rest of the Cranes for their 2006 World Cup qualifying game against Burkina Faso on Saturday.
There was some confusion as to why the player has been deported.
"I'm so upset, because I was arrested for no good reason because I even had a letter from the Ugandan FA," the player said.
Muwonge claims that police at Abidjan Airport had arrested him because he had no visa for Burkina Faso in his passport.
"They were arresting people at the airport and I was arrested, they refused to listen to my explanation," he told BBC Sport.
The Cranes' head of delegation, George Kabwimukya, told BBC Sport from Burkina Faso that airport officials had told him that the player was arrested as he tried leave the airport and go into Abidjan without an Ivorian visa.
The secretary general of the Uganda football association, Haruna Mawanda, has said that they will be investigating the matter after the team comes back from Burkina Faso.
The deportation means that Uganda's squad is left in Burkina Faso with just one goalkeeper for the qualifier in Ouagadougou.
"Now we have to try and look for US$1,200 to fly Muwonge to Burkina Faso on Friday because we can not risk playing with just one goalkeeper," Mawanda said.
