Africans make Fifa squad
Akide under pressure from Sweden's Karolina Westberg at the 2003 World Cup
Akide has been selected for the side
Four African women have been included in a star-studded team that will face World Champions Germany in Paris on 20 May.

The match is being played in celebration of the centennial year of the world football governing body Fifa.

US-based Nigeria striker Mercy Akide, Ghana goalkeeper Memunatu Sulemana, Algeria midfielder Naima el Awadi and Egypt defender Marwa Hawat el Ibrahim are the players invited.

Fifa's all-star selection will have 18 of the world's top female football players, with representatives coming from each of the six continental confederations.

Sweden coach Marika Domanski Lyfors and her France counterpart, Elisabeth Loisel, will manage the team.

Akide, a former African Player of the Year, is one of four strikers picked for the side, while Sulemana has featured in two World Cup finals.

The 20-year-old Marwa is a physical education student.

The women's match precedes an encounter between reigning men's World Champions Brazil and France, the reigning European Champions.
