Nigeria's Super Falcons have to wait until Tuesday to play South Africa |
The second leg of the Olympic play-off between Nigeria and South Africa's women in Abuja has been postponed for a second time.
The match will now be played on Tuesday.
The South African side have fifteen women unable to play due to illness according to team official Fran Hilton-Smith, leaving them with just eight fit players.
"It's a severe blow, five of the players have been confirmed with malaria, and a further ten have medical certificates to show that they have food poisoning and typhoid meaning they are unfit to play," she told the BBC Sport website.
The head of the South African delegation, Ria Ledwaba, said she regretted that the game had been delayed for a second time.
"It is an unfortunate situation, but it is beyond our control," she said.
"We didn't come here to play games, but to play football, but we have 15 sick ladies and we are concerned for their health, because we are responsible for them."
The match was originally meant to be played on Friday and was postponed until Sunday because nine of the Banyana Banyana players were hit by food poisoning.
At first it looked like the game would have to go ahead after match commissioner, Mercel Njipendi insisted the tie had to be played.
But after consultations with the Nigerian football Authorities, the match commissioner announced that a new date of Tuesday 1 April had been agreed by both parties.
He went onto to stress that the game had to go ahead on Tuesday come what may.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's Coach Ismaila Mabo expressed shock at the news that his side may have to play on Tuesday but was quick commiserate with the South Africans on their unfortunate situation.
The two sides are currently locked at 2-2 after the first leg in South Africa two weeks ago.
