South Africa came from behind to draw 2-2 with Nigeria in the first leg of the women's Olympic qualifying decider in Pretoria on Friday.

Nigeria scored twice in the space of three minutes during the first half to take a comfortable command of the early stages.

But South Africa had their star player Portia Modise to thank as she scored both goals to level the tie.

Portia pulled a goal back in the 35th minute before scoring the equaliser midway through the second half.

Goals from Vera Okolo and Perpetua Nwocha had given the Nigerians a perfect start after 23 minutes.

Despite the 2-2 draw, Nigeria dominated and had the better scoring chances.

The African champions are favourites to represent the continent at August's Olympic Games in Athens ahead of the second leg match on the weekend of 26-28 March.
