Zanaco can afford to ignore last week's protest |
A late goal has kept the Zambian side Zanaco in the next round of the Champions League. Winston Kalenga secured the place for Zanaco with an 88th minute strike to beat Simba SC of Tanzania 3-1 in Lusaka.
Zanaco go through 3-2 on aggregate in a game that saw both sides reduced to 10 men.
Simba could have survived elimination on the away goals rule had the third goal not gone in.
The hosts scored twice before the 51st minute despite playing with 10 men since the 10th minute.
Striker Cosmas Banda opened the scores before Newa Mwewa headed the second.
Simba's Boniface Pawasa was sent off in the second half after he brought down Zanaco defender Boas Chibwe in the box.
Despite Zanaco winning a penalty for the foul, their skipper Numba Mumamba failed to convert when his shot was stopped.
However, Simba pulled a goal back in the 77th minute through Emmanuel Gabriel with a shot from outside the box.
