Zanaco protest Simba victory

Burundian Mwinyi Rajab
Yanga claim the Burundian international is still their player
Tanzanian side Simba SC will travel to Zambia for this weekend's Champions League tie with a protest hanging over their heads.

Zambian champions Zanaco have complained to Caf that Simba fielded an ineligible player in the first-leg encounter played in Dar-es-Salaam a fortnight ago.

Zanaco submitted their protest after another Tanzanian side Yanga SC - archrivals of Simba - wrote a protest letter to Caf that Simba had used their Burundian player Mwinyi Rajab in the game.

The Burundi international midfielder came on as a second-half substitute in a match that ended 1-0 in favour of Simba.

Football Association of Tanzania secretary-general Michael Wambura has confirmed that Caf has requested more details on the player's status.

"We have written to Simba asking them to explain but we haven't got their reply yet," Wambura told the BBC Sport website on Wednesday.

"Once they respond, we will in turn explain to Caf in order for them to take necessary decisions," he added.

Yanga are insisting that Rajab, who played for them last season, still has a contract with them.

The club claims no formal transfer procedures have been concluded that would make Rjab eligible to play for Simba.

But Simba claim they followed procedures and are currently preparing their defence.
