Nigeria coach backs Oliseh
Former Nigeria captain Sunday Oliseh

Nigeria coach Christian Chukwu has told journalists that former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh will be given a chance to return to the international fold.

Oliseh recently left German club VfL Bochum, where the Nigerian was on loan from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, after assaulting a team mate.

Oliseh reportedly clashed with Iranian Valid Hashemian at half-time during a goalless draw with Hansa Rostock on 28 February, and the argument resumed after the match.

"I'm disappointed by Oliseh's conduct but we will not abandon him," Chukwu said.

"Before his problem, he was in brilliant form and as such we will consider him for the (national) team."

Oliseh has stayed away from the Super Eagles since the 2002 Cup of Nations after a well-publicised fallout with Nigeria Football Association officials and he has insisted his international future is over.

A return to the Nigerian team would also be surprising in that Oliseh's club career is far from secure at the moment.

The 29-year-old's expulsion from Bochum means he is expected to head back to Borussia Dortmund, where he has already been deemed surplus to requirements.

This was why Oliseh was loaned out to Bundesliga rivals Bochum in the first place.
