Pressure mounts on Egypt

Members of Egypt's parliament have officially demanded that high-ranking Egyptian Football Association (EFA) officials quit their jobs following the Pharaohs' first-round exit at the recent Cup of Nations.

Despite the resignation of former national team coach Mohsen Salah, the harsh campaign against the EFA may mean that Salah will not be the only casualty of the Nations Cup failure.

Four members out of 13 have already announced their resignation from the EFA board, including former international goalkeeper Ahmed Shoubeir.

"I resigned because I felt I was no longer able to develop the game from my position," Shoubeir told BBC Sport.

The discussions in the Egyptian People's Assembly went as far as some members requesting that the Minister of Youth and Sports, Alie El Din Hilal, quit his position.

The members argued that the minister should share responsibility for the Pharaohs' failure to progress from Group C, where they finished third behind Cameroon and Algeria.

Last weekend, intensive meetings were held last weekend between Hilal and some of the nation's football experts in an attempt to save face.

Yet EFA officials are currently busy increasing their efforts to announce the name of the new foreign coach of the national team as soon as possible.

EFA President Dahshoury Harb confirmed that the agreement with the new boss will go through his organisation and that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will pay the salary of the new recruit.
