 Salah promised to quit following Egypt's elimination |
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has accepted the resignation of coach Mohsen Salah. Salah had said he would quit following a disappointing African Cup of Nations and this has now been confirmed by the EFA.
And Youssef al-Dahshouri, the head of the EFA, has now said the next coach to take charge of the Pharaohs will be a foreigner.
He told a press conference that the coach was needed to prepare the team for World Cup qualifiers, which start in June.
The favourite to succeed Salah is Ruud Krol, the Dutchman who was previously in charge of Egypt in 1996. Krol also once took temporary charge of the Dutch national side in 2002.
Theo Bucker, coach of Champions League runners-up Ismaili, is also another candidate - especially since the German has worked for more than four years in Egypt.
Yesterday, former Egypt coach Mahmoud El Gohary - who took the Pharaohs to the World Cup in 1990 and won the Cup of Nations with them in 1998 - ruled himself out of the running.
