Cameroon have responded to Fifa about their controversial kit

The Cameroon football federation (Fecafoot) has written to Fifa explaining that it was impossible for them to change their controversial one-piece kit during the African Cup of Nations in Tunisia.

Fecafoot were replying to Fifa's letter asking why the Cameroon team continued to wear the one-piece kits after the first round of the competition, contravening the world governing body's decision that the kit had to be changed after the group stages.

But Cameroon defied the order and went ahead to wear the kit in the quarter-final loss to Nigeria.

Fifa gave Fecafoot until 2300 GMT on Wednesday to respond to their latest query.

"We told Fifa that as already indicated in a reply to their 30 January letter, we needed two months to get new kits," said Mohammed Iya the president of Fecafoot.

"In our reply we mentioned the fact that the match commissioner of our game against Nigeria did not report any problems with our kit, as was the case in previous games.

"That to us was enough to conclude that we could use the kit."

If Fifa are not satisfied with Fecafoot's reply, they may fine the federation, however kit manufacturers Puma have already agreed to pay any financial fine that is imposed on the Indomitable Lions.

Meanwhile the start of Cameroon's domestic season has been postponed by a week.

Officially, the opening date was shifted from Saturday 21 February to 28 February because of Sunday's Olympic qualifier between Cameroon and Ivory Coast.

The match will be played in Yaounde on Sunday in the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium, which is one of the grounds used to host top flight domestic football.

However according to somebody within Fecafoot the real reason for the delay is that many of the clubs have not completed the necessary registration formalities.

Only half of the 18 clubs in division one have completed the registration of players, forcing the authorities to postpone the start of the season.
