Hans Kodric has a modest coaching background |
Ghanaian league champions Asante Kotoko have appointed German Hans Kodric as their new coach on a two-year contract. He replaces 1978 African Footballer of the Year Abdul Razak who was sacked despite leading the club to their first league title in 10 years.
Kodric is joining Kotoko as the fourth foreigner in four years with a modest coaching record.
His previous coaching experience has been at the lower ranks in Germany with second division side SSV Ulm, where he was assistant manager in 2001, and Almenia Aachen.
Kodric has also worked for Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt as a talent scout.
The German's first major assignment will be the African Champions League where Kotoko make their return to the competition after a decade's absence with a first round tie at home to Tempete Mocaf of the Central African Republic next weekend.
Kotoko, twice African champions, have depended heavily on foreign coaches since 2000 when Ernst Middendorp signed and stayed on for two seasons.
The club, based in Ghana's second city Kumasi, had also hired former Zambia coach Ian Porterfield and ex-Ghana manager Ralf Zumdick.
It wasn't until Abdul Razak - a Kotoko great in his playing days - arrived last year that the club managed to win their first league title in a decade.
