Asante Kotoko's fans are now saying farewell to Abdul Razak

Ghanaian league champions Asante Kotoko have parted company with Abdul Razak, following disagreements between the coach and his players.

The move comes barely three months after Razak led the Kumasi-based side to their first league title in ten years.

Paul Adom Otchere, the club's public relations manager, said Razak has been asked to step aside following the disagreements.

Otchere added that the club's management decided it was in Kotoko's best interests for the championship-winning coach to leave.

A disappointed Razak insists he will carry on his coaching career.

"I will take a break from the game and consider a few offers from home and elsewhere in Africa," he told BBC Sport.

The 1978 African Player of the Year returned to Ghana after guiding Stade Malien to two consecutive titles in Mali, but was constantly criticised by both Kotoko fans and officials for 'tactical incompetence'.

Matters came to a head on 25 January when Kotoko lost 2-1 in a pre-season tournament to Kumasi rivals King Faisal.

Razak offered his resignation after that defeat, citing differences between himself and the playing staff, but changed his mind on the advice of the club's owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu, who is the traditional ruler of the Ashanti people.

Yet the Kotoko board has decided against the king's wishes.
