Jan Peeters says Fifa are right to ask Africa to host the World Cup |
Fifa inspectors have completed their week-long visit to Egypt, where the five-man team have been assesing the county's ability to host the 2010 World Cup finals.
Egypt is the last of the five bidding countries to have been visited by the inspectors, who have already travelled to Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and South Africa.
Fifa has promised the 2010 World Cup to Africa and Jan Peeters, the Belgian who heads the Fifa inspection team, says that football's world governing body was justified in doing so.
"For the past three months, the inspection committee has visited the five candidates and from what we've seen, I believe that Fifa was right to decide it was time for the World Cup to be held in Africa," Peeters said.
He went on to explain that the inspectors have no authority to comment about any of the individual bids, saying that they are simply the technical team and not the decision-makers.
Peeters, who is also president of the Belgian Football Association, said it had been a short and hectic visit to Egypt, in which his team had visited nine cities across the country.
The Belgian finished by saying that the inspection committee will submit its final report on the five bidding nations to Fifa president Sepp Blatter on 30 March.
The five countries will make final presentations to Fifa on 14 May in Zurich.
The Fifa executive committee, who chooses the winnner, will announce the 2010 World Cup hosts the following day.
