Marc-Vivien Foe's widow has received money from a charity match |
Marc-Vivien Foe's widow Marie Louise has received a cheque for US $250,000, the money was from a fund-raising match held in honour of the Cameroon star. The cheque was handed over to Foe's widow by the French league president Frederic Thiriez.
Foe died from a heart attack after collapsing while playing for his country in a Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia at his former club's ground of Lyon on June 26.
Cameroon beat the All-Stars team 3-1 in the charity match played on 11 November in front of 23,962 spectators at the same ground where he collapsed.
Foe's Cameroon team mates have vowed to try and retain this month's Cup of Nations as a way of honouring him.
Fifa turned down a request from the Cameroon Football Federation to retire Foe's number 17 shirt from all their national squads.
However Caf have dedicated the 2004 African Super Cup between Enyimba of Nigeria and Tunisia's Etoile Sahel to the memory of the Indomitable Lions midfielder.
