Silva will be making only his second appearance of the season |
Monaco's Senegalese international Tony Sylva is in line to make his Uefa Champions League debut following an injury to the French club's regular goalkeeper.
Sylva is expected to start against Greek side AEK Athens in the Group C clash on Wednesday after Flavio Roma pulled an ankle in training on Sunday.
The Italian goalkeeper is to have X-rays to determine the length of his recovery but Monaco's medical staff said he would be out for at least ten days.
Thus Sylva is set to make his first start in Europe's premier club competition, and only his second appearance of the season.
Although the Senegalese stopper has never played in the Champions League, he made three appearances for the French league leaders in the UEFA Cup in 1999.
Curiously, the 28-year-old's last appearance came in a 1-0 victory over AEK Athens - the same team he will line up against in the Greek capital on Wednesday.
Monaco have already qualified for the knock-out stages of the Champions League, having taken 10 points from five games.
Sylva is Senegal's first-choice goalkeeper and is expected to start all the Teranga Lions' matches in the forthcoming Nations Cup finals in Tunisia.
