Nigeria's Julius Berger are missing several key players |
Nigeria's Julius Berger will be missing several key players for the first leg of their Cup Winners' Cup final against Tunisia's Etoile Sahel. Berger's coach Fatai Amoo is hoping that their absence will not affect their chances of claiming a first leg lead during Saturday's home tie in Abeokuta.
"We are not very happy that several of our top players will miss this game for one reason or the other.
"We will miss them and their absence has also affected the competition for places in the team," Amoo said.
Berger will be without their top strikers.
Bayo Hassan and Amaechi Nwanze are both injured while the team's leading scorer in the competition, Muftau Ibrahim, with four goals, is having trials with several European clubs.
A row with Amoo also led to former African Footballer of the Year Rashidi Yekini quitting the club.
The Nigerians are now expected to use Endurance Idahor and either youngster Babatunde Yusuf or Obinna Okafor in the starting line-up.
Amoo knows that the Tunisians will not be easy opponents.
Etoile are full of confidence following convincing home and away wins over Morocco's Wydad Casablanca in the semi-final.
"Etoile are a really good side, as their results in the competition have shown, and will provide us with our biggest test yet," he admitted.
Berger players say they are determined to win the trophy as a tribute to Nwanze, who tragically lost his son and 22-year-old wife within a week last month.
His one-year-old son was killed after a television set fell on him, with the boy's mother subsequently dying from shock.
The return leg of the Cup Winners' Cup final will take place in Sousse, Tunisia on 6 December.
