Esperance won the first leg 3-1 |
Ismaili have accused Esperance of underhand tactics in changing the kick-off time for Saturday's second leg of their Champions League semi-final to take advantage of Ramadan. The encounter was originally set for a 2030 GMT kick-off to allow both teams to eat before the match but will now be played at 1300 GMT.
Muslims take no food or liquids between sunrise and sunset during the month of Ramadan.
But Tunisian champions Esperance have told their players to forego the fast on the day of the match.
 | Their decision is going to motivate my players even more |
Egyptian club Ismaili's coach Theo Bucker said that by changing the kick-off time from late evening to mid-afternoon, Esperance were hoping to catch his players in a weakened state as they would be fasting. "It's very unjust and not the sort of dealings you would expect from a big club like Esperance," said Bucker.
"But it might just work out in our favour because what Esperance don't realise is that their decision is going to motivate my players even more."
Esperance have denied making the change to take advantage, claiming the kick-off time was adjusted by the Caf.
But Caf regulations leave the setting of dates and kick-off time to the home club and said in a statement on Wednesday that the change had been requested by the Tunisian federation.
Ismaili, seeking to reach their first African cup final in 34 years, lead 3-1 from the first leg in Egypt earlier this month.
The winners will meet Enyimba of Nigeria in the final over two legs next month.
