Egypt's players celebrating after a goal
Egypt have four points from two games
Egypt's chances of advancing to the second round of the World Youth Championship improved on Tuesday when they beat England 1-0 in a group D tie.

Striker Emad Motab scored the goal in the 75th minute with a powerful low strike from the edge of the area, following a long solo run.

Motab and Ahmed Sami kept the English defence under constant pressure throughout the match.

The African Youth Champions now have four points, following their 1-1 draw with Colombia in their opening game.

Egypt play Japan in their final game on Friday.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast were forced by Ireland to a 2-2 draw in their Group E game.

Arouna Kone opened scoring for the west Africans, converting a penalty kick in the 12th minute after John Fitzgerald's foul on Adolph Tohoua.

The Irish equalized in the 36th minute when Stephen Paisley connected with a David Bell free kick.

Kone scored his second in the 67th minute with a great solo effort but the lead was short-lived, as Stephen Elliot equalized in the 74th.

The Young Elephants received a further blow a minute later when Swiss referee Massimo Busacca sent off goalkeeper Daniel Yeboah for handling the ball outside the penalty area.

Ireland and the Ivory Coast share the lead in Group E with four points from two matches.
